Chipping Norton Neighbourhood Management Update - May
May 2007
A/Sgt Rosemary Dilsaver reports on May’s update for Chipping Norton and the surrounding areas.
Chipping Norton
“A restructuring of resources at Chipping Norton has been in place a month now and together with the increased number of Police Community Support Officers, this has increased police visibility around both the town and the surrounding villages. This is a neighbourhood priority highlighted last October by the people of the Chipping Norton area and one which we are very keen to improve on.
“Two attempted distraction burglaries happened in Church Street, where the offenders made off before police arrival despite some very alert action by the residents. Once again, we reiterate to the more vulnerable residents, do not let anyone into your house without proper identification. No identification, no entry!
“Criminal damage is occurring in Edward Stone Rise, mainly caused by stone throwing. All the houses have been targeted in a leaflet drop asking for witnesses to such acts to contact the local police either at the police station between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, or by contacting 0845 8 505 505 and asking for the Neighbourhood Team.
“General anti-social behaviour continues with more seizures of alcohol, and a 14-year-old boy was arrested for public order offences. Three more letters have been delivered to youths from the Co-Op, banning them from The Westgate Centre.”
Charlbury (including Finstock, Spelsbury, Fawler)
“More alcohol has been seized from underage drinkers in the Charlbury/Nine Acres area with the usual follow up letters.
“A spate of criminal damage in The Stocks, Chadlington, has been stopped by good work from a Police Community Support Officer. This led to the offender being spoken to and the damage stopping.
“Two offenders responsible for walk in thefts in the Kingham area have been arrested and some property has been recovered.
“Finstock has had more damage caused to play equipment.”
The Wychwoods (including Ascott, Shipton and Milton-under-Wychwood, Chadlington, Chilson, Sarsden, Kingham, Churchill, Salford).
“The Wychwoods are now benefiting from their own Police Community Support Officer becoming a familiar sight on their streets. Arrangements have been made for visits to The Wychwoods Primary School to speak to the younger children. The school recently suffered criminal damage to their property, especially the swimming pool where the extent of the damage has yet to be finalised. Problems are still being experienced with the parking!”
The Bartons (including Middle Barton, Sandford St. Martin, Ledwell, Over Worton, Nether Worton, Great Tew, Little Tew, Swerford and Enstone)
“Youths gathering in Mill Lane, Middle Barton continues to be a source of complaint.
“An incident of the most violent criminal damage occurred last week in Litchfield Close, Enstone. Three motor vehicles had their windows smashed by a young male using a hammer like instrument following an alleged road rage. The people responsible for causing this damage made off in a car and they are also believed to be responsible for other crimes the same evening and on other occasions. Following a vehicle pursuit and intense police activity, the offending car and occupants were caught and arrested near Thame. They are now in custody with inquiries continuing.”
